Invitation to attend McCourt’s Whittington Lecture

Every year, we gather to celebrate the memory of Leslie Whittington, then-GPPI associate dean, professor and beloved McCourt community member who, along with her husband and two children, tragically died on September 11, 2001. It is in her honor that we invite you to join us for this year’s Whittington Lecture featuring U.S. Senator Chris Coons of Delaware. This event will take place on Tuesday, February 3, 2025 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 125 E St., with a brief reception to follow.
As an admitted student, we welcome to you attend this lecture. You may reserve your seat here. We ask that you RSVP no later than Friday, January 30.

Commitment to Inclusion
The McCourt School of Public Policy aspires to become the most inclusive public policy school in the nation. Inclusivity is a core value at McCourt because public policies are more effective when our political and policy decision makers reflect the perspectives and lived experience of the communities they serve, and being able to work across differences is a fundamental skill we seek to cultivate. Read the full page on our Commitment to Inclusion, including our initial strategies to achieve this aspiration.
Internship Requirement
McCourt requires a formal internship experience as a program requirement for the MIDP, MPP, and MS-DSPP programs. The McCourt degrees emphasize analytical skills, enabling graduates to be highly effective in designing, analyzing and implementing policy in the US and around the globe. The internship requirement is integral to the student’s academic training at the McCourt School.
The learning objectives of the internship are:
- Increase proficiency in specific public policy disciplines; such as management, statistics, economics, data science, politics, and/or policy-making;
- Apply quantitative, economics, data science, and/or policy analysis concepts and theories to real-world decision-making; and
- Develop and improve policy making skills in communication, quantitative or qualitative reasoning, data or policy analysis, and/or teamwork.
Students can intern at any time during their time at McCourt and are required to have a minimum of 120 hours of work. Students can waive the internship requirement based on prior work experience. Internships are optional for students in the MPM program. For more questions, please contact Assistant Director of Academic Affairs, Alora Hasson (ah1499@georgetown.edu)
