McCourt’s emphasis on applying policy knowledge to real-world challenges resonates with my desire to effect meaningful change, particularly in areas of health promotion and harm reduction. McCourt’s diverse community and its focus on developing practical skills make it an ideal place for me to grow both academically and professionally.

What professional/ work experience did you have prior to coming to McCourt?

Prior to joining McCourt, my professional journey centered around roles that combined rigorous analytical skills with a deep commitment to community service. As a Treasury Analyst at the Social Security Institute for the Mexican Armed Forces (ISSFAM) in Mexico City. This role not only sharpened my analytical abilities but also deepened my understanding of financial systems and their impact on public policy.

Parallel to my finance career, I dedicated myself to community service, most notably as a Peer Counselor for the Rehab Center Torre Fuerte Civil Association in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Here, I guided inpatients through addiction recovery programs, a role that enriched my understanding of public health issues and the importance of harm reduction strategies. This blend of high-level financial management and hands-on community engagement has given me a unique perspective on the intersections between economic policy and social welfare, a perspective I am eager to expand at McCourt.

What has been the best part of your experience so far? The best part of my experience at McCourt so far has been the dynamic interplay of rigorous academic learning with practical, real-world policy applications. Engaging with a diverse cohort of peers, each bringing their unique perspectives and experiences, has significantly enriched classroom discussions and group projects. The opportunity to learn from faculty who are not only experts in their fields but also actively involved in policy-making has provided me with invaluable insights into the complexities and nuances of policy development and implementation. Additionally, the hands-on projects and case studies have allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to actual policy challenges, preparing me for a career where I can make tangible impacts in the realm of public policy. This blend of academic rigor, practical application, and a vibrant, diverse community has been incredibly fulfilling.
