1. What are you currently working on? Where?
Currently, I am proud to serve as the Director of the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate at the Comptroller of Maryland. In this role, I focus on strategy, innovation, and policy to drive systemic improvements and ensure equitable tax administration. I lead a dedicated team committed to resolving complex taxpayer challenges, addressing systemic issues, and fostering transparency and trust. My greatest strength lies in overcoming problems—transforming obstacles into opportunities to improve processes and create sustainable solutions that empower taxpayers.
Previously, I was the Assistant Director of Operations at the District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue, where I oversaw critical departments such as the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate, the Tax Academy, Communications, and the Center of Excellence. In this role, I worked closely with the Director of Operations to develop strategic initiatives, enhance service delivery, and implement innovative solutions to improve the taxpayer experience.
2. How has the EMPL program shaped the way you approach your work?
The Executive Master in Policy Leadership (EMPL) program has fundamentally reshaped my approach to leadership, strategy, and policymaking. It taught me to prioritize innovative, forward-thinking solutions while ensuring alignment with stakeholder needs and long-term goals. The program strengthened my ability to strategically address challenges, engage diverse stakeholders, and develop policies that balance innovation with practicality. By incorporating tools and frameworks from the EMPL program, I have enhanced my capacity to deliver impactful, strategic outcomes for stakeholders.
3. What was your favorite memory from the EMPL program?
My favorite memory from the EMPL program is the strong sense of camaraderie within the cohort. Collaborating with such a talented, diverse group of professionals broadened my perspective and fostered personal and professional growth. The connections and insights I gained have been invaluable, forming a network of peers who continue to inspire and support me.
4. What is something you are passionate about outside of school?
Outside of my professional and academic pursuits, I am deeply passionate about advancing social and economic justice. I focus on addressing systemic barriers to financial empowerment and stability, leveraging my expertise in strategy and innovation to drive equitable outcomes and create meaningful change in underserved communities.
