McCourt Students Veronica Hoyer and Jack Ryan Recognized for Academic Excellence and Leadership at Georgetown’s Graduate Student Awards
On April 17, 2020 the Office of Graduate Enrichment, Biomedical Graduate Education, Graduate Student Government, McCourt School of Public Policy, and the McDonough School of Business hosted the fifth annual Graduate Student Awards Ceremony.
McCourt student Verónica Hoyer (MPP-MSFS ‘21) received the Masters Student of the Year At-Large Award, an award that recognizes a small group of students who demonstrate a high level of excellence in their field including academic achievement, quality of papers and theses, and a commitment to advancing their studies through internships and/or work experience.
Hoyer is a Fellow with the Institute of Diplomacy and an Admissions Ambassador for both the McCourt School and the Master of Science in Foreign Service program at Georgetown University. She has served as the Georgetown University Veteran’s Association (GUSVA) liaison and formerly worked for the Department of Homeland Security. Additionally, Hoyer is an active advocate for Venezuelans living in the US. Her commitment to community and public service within the Georgetown community and beyond is notable.
McCourt student Jack Ryan (MPP ‘20) received the Outstanding Leader in a Graduate Organization Award, an award that recognizes a graduate student who has made outstanding contributions to the campus community through their leadership, programming endeavors, individual skills, volunteer activities, service, and attitude in support of student activities as a member or leader of a group.
Ryan is President of the McCourt Student Association where he oversees all student engagement, community activities, and serves as an advocate for McCourt students. He also served as a Student Strategy Team Lead at Georgetown’s Institute of Politics and Public Service and as a Graduate Assistant for McCourt’s Executive Education department. Beyond Georgetown, he has interned for the Committee on Ways and Means, the chief tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). He currently works as an Incoming Associate at Hamilton Place Strategies.
