Redistricting in 2021 – Moon Duchin
On Thursday, September 23, 2021, MDI’s Amy O’Hara was joined by Moon Duchin, a Professor of Mathematics at Tufts University who runs the MGGG Redistricting Lab. They discussed differential privacy, communities of interest, and algorithmic methods for redistricting.
Moon Duchin: Moon Duchin is a Professor of Mathematics at Tufts University, where she has also been active in the Science, Technology, and Society Program. She runs the MGGG Redistricting Lab as one of the research groups at the Tisch College of Civic Life. Duchin’s areas of mathematical interest are in geometric group theory, low-dimensional topology, and dynamics. Her applied research program is in data science for civil rights, and the Lab has become a leading group in the national efforts to better understand census, redistricting, and electoral systems.
