Student organization involvement while at McCourt: Georgetown Public Policy Review, Business Development
Why did you choose Georgetown? My undergraduate degree was in Business Management & Finance, and after earning my MBA, I spent my career with CBS Sports Digital and Yahoo! focused on technology, digital media, and consumer marketing. With little experience working in government or the public sector, I understood how Big Tech and sports leagues such as the NFL & PGA TOUR can influence economic and social policy. I chose McCourt to further my leadership skills, and graduated with a renewed passion for combining technology and entrepreneurship as a platform for social and economic change.
What was the best part of your experience?
In short, the people. Their diverse backgrounds and experiences enhanced the impact of the program. Shared knowledge brings new perspectives. There are endless opportunities for McCourt students outside of the classroom. The Georgetown Public Policy Challenge gave me ‘real world’ experience by challenging us to develop an innovative policy solution that addressed social or economic issues in the local community. Research for the GPPC introduced me to Bread for the City and the Green Scheme. It was eye opening to see how much of an impact these organizations bring to underserved communities and for those most in need. Lastly, at graduation I had a chance encounter and conversation with Frank McCourt – it was a true honor.
For prospective students coming from the private sector, know that the McCourt program will provide you with interdisciplinary skills in economics, communications, negotiation, financial management, and leadership. McCourt will transform student perspectives and provide the platform to truly make a difference in the world. I would be happy to share my Georgetown McCourt experience with you. Hoya Saxa!
