Why did you choose McCourt? After considering different programs, I chose McCourt’s Master of International Development Policy (MIDP) because it provided the rigorous quantitative and analytical foundations needed to lead impactful projects in international development. The program’s emphasis on evidence-based policymaking aligned perfectly with my aspirations to work with organizations focused on improving development outcomes globally, such as the World Bank, IFPRI, IPA, and IADB. Additionally, McCourt’s location in Washington, D.C., offered unmatched access to international development practitioners, with opportunities to engage in networking events, seminars, and personal conversations with leaders in the field—experiences that truly enriched my perspective.

What was the best part of your experience? Working with the World Bank’s Impact Evaluation Department, DIME, for my capstone project was a highlight, as it gave me real-world experience with the type of analytical and project management work I aspired to do. I also appreciated McCourt’s flexibility in its curriculum, which allowed me to take an elective on Education and Human Development outside the program and apply my skills in a broader context.

Another key part of my experience was the chance to interact with high-level researchers, fellow students, and faculty from around the world, each bringing unique perspectives to the classroom and enriching my understanding of international development. These interactions and the diverse perspectives they offered greatly enhanced my analytical approach and strengthened my ability to lead complex, cross-functional projects effectively—a skill set that has been essential in my career since McCourt.

What internships did you have during your time at McCourt? I interned at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) during the summer, where I contributed to foundational research for a future impact evaluation of the Varkey Foundation’s School Leadership and Innovation Program (PLIE). This experience included survey design and fieldwork in Argentina, where I conducted interviews and focus groups to gather insights from various stakeholders.

Student organization involvement while at McCourt: I was actively involved with the Latin American Policy Association (LAPA), where I connected with peers interested in policy issues impacting the Latin American region.

Undergraduate Degree and University: I graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Economics and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Hobbies / Interests: I’m passionate about cooking, exploring new cuisines (Check my @kicaskitchentreasure instagram account). I also love dancing and traveling—discovering new places and cultures enriches my perspective and fuels my creativity.
