– The GPPI community recently welcomed admitted students during two open house events. During these day-long events,
The prospective students heard from GPPI Dean Ed Montgomery about what sets GPPI apart from its institutional peers- our Washington, D.C. location and the unique policy opportunities it affords, our rigorous applied curriculum, and our world-renowned faculty.
Assistant Dean for Academic and Student Affairs Kerry Pace gave the students an overview of GPPI’s Master of Public Policy (MPP), Master of Public Policy Evening Program (MPP-EP), and Master in International Development Policy (MIDP) curricula, international and dual degree offerings, and faculty. Prospective students also heard from Assistant Dean, Career and Alumni Services, Jennifer Blanck about GPPI’s robust career service resources for students and alumni. GPPI alumni Amy Blasberg ’10 and Riaz Ali ’06, also spoke at each event (respectively) about their experience at GPPI.
The students were also treated to presentation with GPPI Professor and Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne and sample classes with GPPI professors on domestic and international development policy. Later in the day they attended a panel discussion hosted by GPPI first year, second year, and evening program students. The event culminated in an evening reception, giving the students an opportunity to meet each other and interact with GPPI administration, faculty, students, and alumni.
GPPI received more than 1,200 applications for just 165 available openings across the MPP, MPP-EP and MIDP programs for the 2012-2013 academic year. As Dean Montgomery said, these admitted students represent the “crème de la crème” of their peers.
