Short Courses FAQ

What time do courses begin and end?

In general, courses begin at 10 AM and end at 4 PM. You will receive a schedule for your course one week before the course begins.

How much is tuition?

Tuition varies by course but you can expect to pay $995 per day. Tuition includes a light breakfast, coffee breaks, lunch, and class materials. It does not include housing.

Are credits offered?

Participants who attend our Executive Institute short courses earn CEUs (Continuing Education Units) and a McCourt School certificate of attendance. Course credit is not awarded for our Executive Institute courses.

Which credit cards do you accept?

We accept Visa, Master Card, and American Express.

My organization does not have/does not wish to pay by credit card. How can I register?

Please email McCourtExecEd@georgetown.edu if your organization cannot pay by credit card. We can register you and send an invoice. Registrations and seats are not confirmed until payment is received.

What is your refund policy?

How do I register for a class?

You can register by going to the link at the bottom of each course page. Please review our policies before you register.

When will I receive the program itinerary?

You will receive a packet of information regarding the program approximately one week prior to the program start. This will include a detailed schedule and program pre-readings. This information will be sent electronically, so please ensure you have submitted a working e-mail address.

Where will the programs take place?

Our programs take place either on the Georgetown University campus (37th Street and O Street, NW, Washington, DC, 20057) or in downtown Washington, DC. Your course listing will indicate the location, and room information will be mailed about one week before the program begins.

How do I get to the main Georgetown campus?

There is daily paid parking available in the Southwest Garage; it can be reached by entering campus from Canal Road. Off-campus (street) parking is hard to find in the Georgetown area.  information.

Where can I stay while in the program?

There is a hotel located on Georgetown University’s campus; this is the recommended facility for our participants. The Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center is located at 3800 Reservoir Road, NW, Washington, DC 20057 and can be reached at (202) 687-3200.

Are meals provided?

We provide a light breakfast, coffee breaks, and lunch for all of our executive institute programs.

What is the program dress code?

There is no formal dress code for our programs, however, we recommend business casual attire. 

Do I need a laptop?

Most of our courses do not require a laptop. When specific equipment is needed, it is specified in the course description.

Is Wi-Fi available?

Visitors can use Georgetown Wifi Services.  No special accounts or provisioning are required to use Guestnet, the campus-wide wireless network for visitors and other users who do not have a Georgetown NetID. If you have trouble connecting or getting a signal in an area listed as having service, please be sure to report it to our help desk by contacting (202) 687-4949 or help@georgetown.edu.

Do I have to print the course materials?

No, you do not have to print your course materials. You can load them on any electronic device of your choice. Do not forget to charge your device because outlets may not be readily available.

Can I use veterans’ benefits to pay for these classes?

Participants should be able to use VA benefits. Contact the Georgetown Veterans Office for more information about eligibility (veteranservices@georgetown.edu – (202) 687-2708).

Are these classes eligible for federal financial aid?

Although students may be able to secure private loans, these are non-credit classes and therefore not eligible for federal financial aid.

As a Georgetown employee, can I use my Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) benefits to pay for these classes?

Yes. Georgetown employees may use TAP benefits for these classes. However, to get tuition assistance, you may not go through the normal registration process. Instead, send an email to McCourtExecEd@georgetown.edu and we will manually register you for the class and send you an invoice. You may then contact the benefits office and follow their process for getting the invoice paid.

English is not my first language; can I still attend?

All of our courses are taught in English; however, we do not require TOEFL or other English proficiency tests for you to attend a course. It is up to you to determine your comfort level with the English language.

Are the programs open to participants from outside North America?

Yes, all our programs are open to participants from around the world. However, Georgetown cannot sponsor F-1 visas for our non-credit courses. U.S. State Department guidelines state that short program participants, if they require a visa, need a tourist visa, not a student visa. Please consult the U.S. State Department to determine whether or not you need a visa. Applicants are highly encouraged to start the visa application process early.

When should I purchase my plane tickets?

All courses are offered contingent upon sufficient enrollment. If you must purchase plane tickets to attend a Georgetown McCourt School short course, please do not purchase them until you have contacted us to ensure the course has sufficient enrollment to run.

Can I request accommodations as a participant with a disability?

Yes. Participants with disabilities who have registered for our courses can request reasonable accommodations. Participants with disabilities who are seeking accommodations should contact the Academic Resource Center and follow the process for requesting reasonable accommodations outlined here: http://academicsupport.georgetown.edu/disability . A reasonable amount of time is required to evaluate the documentation, review the request, and determine the appropriate accommodations.
