Michelle De Mooy

Michelle De Mooy is a leader in technology policy, strategic communications and multi-stakeholder project management. Her career has been dedicated to advancing social justice through the development and deployment of responsible and innovative technology and public policy that balances rights and revenue. She has published numerous articles and reports, most recently on how the U.S. should incorporate human rights into federal privacy legislation and a report measuring the impact of bias in the algorithms that power health apps. Her recent projects and work have included spearheading cutting-edge policy for companies such as Conde Nast and Hearst as senior policy director at MPA/News Media Alliance; designing tech and policy specs for an open source and privacy-forward shared content and advertising network for the Local News Consortium; building a non-profit led digital identity governance framework; crafting a data ethics assessment tool for VCs in partnership with the Omidyar Network; creating and moderating a webinar series exploring the impact of changes in digital advertising on privacy, journalism and democracy for Craig Newmark Philanthropies; and pioneering innovative programs and strategic policy as director of privacy and data at the Center for Democracy & Technology.
