Marian Wright Edelman Wins Inaugural Janet Reno Award

A steadfast advocate for children and youth, Mrs. Edelman is the founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund. Under her leadership, the Children’s Defense Fund has played a critical role in ensuring that our nation’s young people have opportunities to thrive with the support of caring families and communities.

The Janet Reno Endowment supports the Women’s Leadership Award, which recognizes women leaders who champion the causes to which Janet Reno dedicated her career. This annual award is reserved for a woman who has demonstrated a commitment and ability to effect change in her community or organization to benefit youth, particularly those at-risk of entering the juvenile justice or child welfare systems.

Please join us in honoring Marian Wright Edelman at the 2017 LEAD Conference, which is taking place on April 6-7, 2017 at Georgetown University. There she will be presented with the award and offer remarks. Space is limited so if you have not yet registered for the conference, please do so today!
