Kugler Elected to LACEA Executive Committee
Dr. Adriana Kugler, Vice-Provost for faculty and Professor at the McCourt School of Public Policy, was elected this month to the executive committee of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association (LACEA). Dr. Kugler will serve a four-year term working in conjunction with the vice president, Santiago Levy, starting January 1, 2016.

Dr. Kugler will serve a four-year term working in conjunction with the vice president, Santiago Levy, starting January 1, 2016.
“I am excited to advance the goals and vision of LACEA,” said Dr. Kugler. “I look forward to partnering with Vice President Levy and the distinguished members of the committee to build upon the terrific work LACEA has done for the region and our field of study.”
LACEA is an international association that sponsors several research networks and annual meetings in an effort to encourage collaboration among academics and practitioners whose economic research focuses primarily on Latin America and the Caribbean. It is supported by organizations including the Global Development Network, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Development Bank of Latin America.
Dr. Kugler served as Chief Economist of the U.S. Department of Labor in 2011 and 2012, where she worked actively on developing policies and proposals on unemployment insurance, training programs, retirement benefits, overtime pay and minimum wages, immigration, disability insurance and occupational safety regulations.
Prior to coming to Georgetown, she was Full and Associate Professor at the economics departments at the University of Houston and at University Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. Her research interests include labor markets and policy evaluation in developed and developing countries. Dr. Kugler has published on these topics in the top general interest and field journals in economics and policy.
