Project Honduras Raises More Than $8,500 at Annual Auction

Project Honduras, GPPI’s student-led sustainable service learning project, raised more than ,500 at its annual service auction last week.

Top prizes included a round of golf with GPPI Dean Edward Montgomery, lunch with GPPI Professor and Washington Post Columnist E.J. Dionne, and behind-the-scenes visit to the set of CNN’s “The Situation Room” with GPPI professor and Democratic strategist Paul Begala.

“We are so grateful for the support of GPPI’s administration and faculty,” said Matt Rogers, MPP candidate and Project Honduras student leader. “The money we raised will go a long way toward providing access to clean water in Balfate.”

More than 140 guests bid on items like lunch with prominent GPPI professors Alice Rivlin, Harry Holzer, and Judy Feder. Many local Georgetown businesses like Blue Mercury, Aveda, and J. Chocolatier donated items as well.

Project Honduras was created to connect GPPI students to an impoverished area and give them the opportunity to use their policy skills to affect change in the community. Working in the community of La Colonia Balfate in Roatán, Honduras, GPPI students are on the verge of providing access to chlorinated water to the entire community.
