Julia Dinkel

Current position and employer: Senior Policy Associate in Energy, Massie Partners

Hometown: Pinehurst, NC

Current City: Washington, DC

Why did you choose McCourt?  I was looking for a rigorous, challenging program that would equip me with the economic and quantitative knowledge base and skills set I was missing, in addition to my specialization courses. I was also primarily interested in staying in DC so that I could capitalize on the amazing networks and opportunities here. After being accepted, McCourt then really stood out in the way they rolled out the welcome wagon and made information and themselves available. Having a beautiful campus in Georgetown with a fully outfitted university athletics gym is just a wonderful cherry on top!

What was the best part of your experience? Everything! The classes, the cohorts, the professors, the staff, the events, the clubs, and the job support, if you utilize it, have all been immensely interesting, rewarding, and helpful. There is always a lot going on and the course load can be challenging and overwhelming sometimes, especially on top of internships or the search for one, but if you put yourself out there and make an effort, staff and other students are usually very receptive and supportive. Just don’t be afraid to ask!

What internships did you have during your time at McCourt? Research, Grants, and Business Development Intern and then Special Projects Contractor for JG Global Advisory, and Policy Intern for Massie Partners, a federal energy policy government affairs firm.

Student organization involvement while at McCourt: Treasurer for the Energy and Environmental Policy (E&E) club and involved with Women in Public Policy Initiative (WiPPI)

Undergraduate University, degree, and major:  Vassar College, BA in Environmental and Urban Studies and Italian Studies

Hobbies / Interests: Outside of work I am a foodie; traveler; arts supporter and appreciator; sometimes tennis and soccer player, biker, hiker, and rock climber; and frequent concerts and events goer (DC has a great music scene!). Always more than happy to share some recommendations.
