GPPI Welcomes Admitted Students to Open House

GPPI welcomed more than seventy prospective students on Friday, April 5th and more than sixty prospective students on Friday, April 12th to the Old North building at Georgetown University.

The Georgetown Public Policy Institute recently hosted two open houses for admitted students.

Students had a chance to hear from Dean Edward Montgomery on April 5 and Dean of Admissions Andrew Cornblatt about what makes learning public policy at Georgetown unique – our world-renowned faculty, our rigorous and applied curriculum, and our location in Washington, D.C., at the center of the policy world.

Dr. Carolyn Hill, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Kerry Pace, Assistant Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, discussed the specific degree requirements of GPPI’s MPP, MIDP, and MPM programs, and highlighted GPPI’s many study abroad opportunities.

Prospective students had the opportunity to join a sample class with a member of GPPI’s core faculty. Judy Feder, GPPI professor and former dean of GPPI taught a sample class on domestic policy on April 5. GPPI professor and former chief economist with the U.S. Department of Labor Harry Holzer taught a domestic policy class on April 12. Students at both open houses had the opportunity to join a class on international development policy with GPPI professor and visiting fellow at the Center for Global Development James Habyarimana.

Attendees were also treated to a policy discussion with GPPI professor and Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne. Future MPP and MIDP students attended a session with current students to learn about life on the Hilltop, while future MPM students met with MPM Faculty Director Lynn Ross to talk about GPPI’s mid-career policy management program.

The events concluded with a reception which gave prospective students the opportunity to engage with current students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The reception provided the opportunity for prospective students to ask any final questions and relax with their future colleagues.
