Georgetown’s Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership to Train 22 Nonprofit Latina Leaders
CPNL and the National Hispana Leadership Institute held a program to cultivate, promote, and sustain emerging nonprofit leaders by helping young Latina professionals develop their leadership and management skills, find their voice as effective community leaders, and build their external networks.
Georgetown University’s Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership (CPNL), in collaboration with the National Hispana Leadership Institute (NHLI), celebrated the graduation of the 2011-2012 Advancing Latina Leaders in Nonprofits Program (ALL IN). This highly competitive program seeks to cultivate, promote and sustain emerging nonprofit leaders by helping young Latina professionals develop their leadership and management skills, find their voice as effective community leaders, and build their external networks. The graduating class included participants from nonprofit organizations including: The National Council of La Raza, Teach for America, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Washington, DC, Girl Scouts of the USA, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.
Sponsored by the American Express Foundation, the program was developed in 2010 by CPNL and NHLI in response to a number of national studies identifying the need for more extensive training for the next generation of nonprofit leaders. As a component of the ALL IN program, CPNL provides a 3-day nonprofit management certificate focusing on human resources management, strategic planning and evaluation, fundraising and corporate partnerships.
“Georgetown University’s Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership is honored to partner with NHLI to prepare these extraordinary young women for top levels of leadership in the nonprofit sector. The sector and our society need them,” says Dr. Kathy Kretman, CPNL Director.
At the graduation ceremony, CPNL Assistant Director, Luisa Boyarski, applauded the participants, saying “It is clear to me that you are dedicated to the sector and your community; that you are strategic thinkers unafraid to ask the most challenging questions; and you are already inspirational leaders with audacious visions of the future and the energy and enthusiasm to achieve them.”
