General Mark Milley Brings Defense Leadership Perspective to McCourt School

The National Defense Policy Initiative (NDPI), a McCourt School student organization, recently welcomed former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley (USA, ret.) for a conversation with Professor Haider Mullick and Elisha Clark (MS-DSPP ’26), NDPI’s president.

NDPI brings together military and civilian students to exchange professional experiences and build lasting connections across the McCourt School and Georgetown University. McCourt has a long tradition of military-affiliated students, and NDPI builds on that legacy — deepening understanding of the Profession of Arms and the workings of military organizations for anyone pursuing careers in government, at home or abroad.

Retired General Mark A. Milley served as the 20th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the principal military advisor to the President, Secretary of Defense, and National Security Council. He held the role from October 1, 2019 until his retirement on September 29, 2023, having previously served as the 39th Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army.

Along with speaking at the McCourt School, General Milley met with NDPI students and McCourt School Dean Carole Gresenz.
