Jeffrey S. Passel is Senior Demographer at the Pew Research Center in Washington, DC, an organization he joined in January 2005. His research interests include the demography of Hispanics and immigrants, integration of immigrants into American society, and world-wide immigration trends. Previous positions include Principal Research Associate at the Urban Institute (1989-2005) and various positions at the U.S. Census Bureau (1974-1989). He has developed measures of immigration flows, especially estimates of the unauthorized immigrant population and components of change that are widely used. He also works on generational dynamics, population projections, defining racial/ethnic groups, and measuring census undercount.
