Alice Rivlin to Deliver McCourt Commencement Address

Alice Rivlin, former Director of the Office of Management and Budget and former Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve Board will be the 2017 McCourt School of Public Policy Commencement speaker.

The McCourt School Commencement ceremony for graduating students, their families, and our community will take place on Thursday, May 18 at 5:30 p.m. on Healy Lawn.

Dr. Rivlin, a recipient of the MacArthur Foundation “genius” award, is one of the nation’s foremost experts on budgetary, health and monetary policy. She has been recognized as one of the greatest public servants in the past 25 years for her work at all levels of government.

She is currently a Visiting Professor at the McCourt School and a Senior Fellow in Economic Studies and the Center for Health Policy at the Brookings Institution. She served as the Founding Director of the Congressional Budget Office from 1975 to 1983 and as chair of the District of Columbia Financial Management and Assistance Authority from 1998 to 2001. In 2010, Dr. Rivlin was named by President Obama to the Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform and also co-chaired, with former Senator Pete Domenici, the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Task Force on Debt Reduction.

She is a distinguished scholar, teacher and public servant with a demonstrated capacity to work on the toughest issues in a manner that earns her respect from across the political spectrum. Few people have worked harder to improve the quality of people’s lives through evidenced-based public policy.

At the Commencement ceremony Dr. Rivlin will receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.
