March 12 Update
Dear McCourt Community:
We recognize that it’s been difficult to keep up with the various emails and communications on Georgetown’s guidance related to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Here are five things you need to know about our response:
- Online Instruction: All Georgetown University degree programs– including all McCourt School programs and classes– will move to online instruction effective this Monday, March 16. More information about this transition can be found here.
- Resources for Students, Faculty and Staff: We offer a range of resources designed to help support teaching and learning in this new context, and to assist with navigating teleworking and other issues related to this move. Many of these resources can be found on McCourt’s Emergency Preparedness website and Georgetown’s Coronavirus Resource Center. Additionally, you can call Georgetown University’s main campus helpline (202-784-3510) to be connected to the appropriate University representative to answer your question.
- Campus Events: Georgetown is strongly encouraging the postponement of all gatherings and events on campus. We have advised McCourt School student groups to cancel, postpone, or move their events to an online environment. GU Politics is also going virtual. The McCourt School is also planning creative ways to deliver co-curricular programming virtually.
- Old North Access: Students will not be allowed into Old North to study or work beginning Monday, March 16, though students can retrieve any required materials from their locker or other storage no later than Wednesday, March 18. The student lounge and workspace on the first floor will be closed as of COB Friday, March 13.
- Ongoing Assessment: We will engage in ongoing assessment, including a survey of all students and faculty to collect feedback on your new virtual classroom experience. We will also hold virtual office hours, and are in the early stages of planning a virtual town hall to address student questions and gather feedback. Stay tuned.
We are committed to doing everything we can to ease the disruption caused by COVID-19 and deliver as valuable an experience as possible to our students. I am confident we can do our part to keep our community healthy and safe, while also serving our students and colleagues and delivering on our mission.
Thank you,
Dean Maria
