Who’s it for?
The Certificate in Health Policy for the McCourt School of Public Policy is a 15-credit program that can be completed in as little as one year. This certificate provides participants understanding of how the public policy process works, a grounding in the fundamentals of major health policies and in-depth skills and knowledge on how to influence health policy in today’s challenging political and policy environment.

Direct access to health policy
The McCourt School’s location in the center of the policy world of Washington, DC and its institutional affiliation with Georgetown University School of Medicine, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and the Georgetown University Health Policy Institute enables direct access to extensive resources, expert faculty and cutting-edge research that greatly benefit and enrich the academic experience.
Flexible curriculum
To earn the Certificate in Health Policy, students must take a total of 15-credits from the classes with at least 9-credits focused specifically on health policy. With permission of the Associate Dean of Academic & Student Affairs, students may substitute other courses to meet this requirement. Students must earn a B or better in all courses to successfully complete this certificate.

Admissions requirements & FAQs
Completed Online Application
All McCourt School programs require an online application to be completed through the Georgetown Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
Degree & GPA Requirement
Students must have a bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 minimum GPA to apply to the certificate program.
Recommendations & Supplemental Data Form
Letters of Recommendation and the Supplemental Data Form are NOT required for admission.
Personal Statement
A personal statement (maximum length of 500 words) explaining why the applicant wants to pursue the certificate and how obtaining this certificate would contribute to the attainment of the applicant’s professional goals.
Resume or Curriculum Vitae
Applicants must upload a resume or curriculum vitae (CV) illustrating work experience.
Transcripts
Applicants are required to upload to the application system copies of official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended. Learn more about how to apply.
International Applicants
TOEFL or IELTS scores: Only for students who did not receive their undergraduate or advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States or from a university where English is the language of instruction for the entire institution.
