Outside your curricular requirements, you can take part in other opportunities in the program, such as the monthly Data Science in Action seminars, where leading experts share how they apply data science to tackle policy challenges.

We welcome applicants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds. While there is no formal requirement for prior professional experience, applicants with relevant work experience often bring valuable perspectives that enrich the learning environment.

We recommend a foundational familiarity with Python and/or R programming languages, alongside comfort with college-level calculus. Additionally, demonstrating technical proficiency in computer science, statistics and advanced mathematics will equip you to navigate the rigorous, cross-disciplinary curriculum.

Yes. The M.S. in DSPP is a STEM-designated program. International students who graduate on an F-1 visa may be eligible to extend their Optional Practical Training (OPT) by up to 24 months through the STEM OPT extension.

Yes. Core courses in data ethics and applied statistical learning are paired with electives such as Policy Issues of Big Data & AI, Applied Neural Networks and Text As Data: Computational Linguistics, which build a foundation in computational social science. Students can also become involved in McCourt’s Tech & Public Policy Center, directed by Professor Michael Bailey.
