Thomas DeLeire
Professor, Distinguished Professor
Thomas DeLeire is Distinguished Professor of Public Policy at the McCourt School. His research focuses on policies to improve health care access and outcomes and on the dynamics between these policies and labor markets. Current projects include evaluations of how the expansion of Medicaid and the creation of subsidies for private insurance under the Affordable Care Act affected health outcomes and access to care.
He has advised federal and state agencies, having been a Senior Advisor for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, a Senior Analyst with the Congressional Budget Office, and a Senior Economist for the President’s Council of Economic Advisers. He also was the principal investigator for an evaluation of the State of Wisconsin’s BadgerCare Plus program.
Prior to coming to Georgetown, DeLeire was director of the La Follette School of Public Affairs and Professor of Public Affairs and Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University.
