Kristin Nicholson

Kristin Nicholson is the Director of the Government Affairs Institute at Georgetown University, a non-partisan, non-profit institution dedicated to providing education and training about congressional processes, organization and practices for executive branch personnel and others with a direct interest in federal government programs. Kristin directs a nine-person team of faculty and staff and teaches on Capitol Hill and around the country on a diverse range of topics related to Congress.

Prior to joining GAI, Kristin spent two decades on Capitol Hill, where she served for sixteen years as Chief of Staff to Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI). In that role, she oversaw Congressman Langevin’s Washington and Rhode Island offices; managed a 20-member staff; administered a $1.3 million annual budget; and coordinated the Congressman’s legislative, constituent service, communications, and administrative functions.  She spent her early years on the Hill serving in senior staff positions for Rep. Glenn Poshard (D-IL) and Rep. David Phelps (D-IL).  

Kristin is also the co-founder of CongressToo, an organization of former congressional staff dedicated to addressing issues of sexual harassment and abuse in and around Congress. 

Kristin holds a B.S. from Northwestern University and a J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law, and she was selected as a Stennis Congressional Staff Fellow in the 109th Congress. She lives in D.C. with her husband and two sons.
