Jonathan Ladd
Associate Professor
Jonathan Ladd is an associate professor in the McCourt School of Public Policy. His additional affiliations at Georgetown include a courtesy appointment in the Department of Government, faculty affiliate status with the Massive Data Institute and the Lab for Globalization and Shared Prosperity, and being a faculty advisor to the Institute of Politics and Public Service (i.e., "GU Politics").
His first book, Why Americans Hate the Media and How it Matters (Princeton University Press, 2012), won the Goldsmith Book Prize from Harvard’s Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy, as well as the McGannon Award for Social and Ethical Relevance in Communications Policy Research. He co-authored Words that Matter: How the News and Social Media Shaped the 2016 Presidential Campaign (Brookings Institution Press, 2020). He is the Principal Investigator of the American Institutional Confidence Poll, a panel survey with waves in 2018, 2021, and 2023.
He served on the Task Force on 2024 Pre-Election Polling of the American Association for Public Opinion Research. He is a former member of the Executive Council of the Elections, Public Opinion and Voting Behavior section of the American Political Science Association and a former senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.
During the spring 2026 semester, his walk-in office hours are Fridays at 11:00am-12:00pm and 2:00-3:30pm in room 587 in ICC. Any Georgetown student can drop in then without an appointment. You do not need to contact him in advance.
