Carlos Delgado Salas
MPP'17 | Strategy Officer, The World Bank
Hometown: Caracas, Venezuela
Current City: Washington, DC
Why did you choose McCourt? I was looking for a policy program that took data seriously, and McCourt's MPP stood out for its quantitative rigor. As an engineer, I wanted to build on my analytical background and apply it to real policy problems. Being in Washington, DC, the public policy capital of the world, meant I could learn in the same city where many of those decisions are made. And the Georgetown name opens doors around the world, which mattered to me as someone who wanted a global career.
What was the best part of your experience? The people. My classmates came from multiple countries and every kind of professional background, so class discussions were never one-dimensional. I also took full advantage of being in DC, attending events at think tanks and international organizations and building a network well beyond campus. Also, DC itself surprised me: it's beautiful, walkable, and easy to call home.
How has McCourt shaped your career? Today I work as a Strategy Officer at the World Bank, where my work touches development finance and data analysis. The econometrics and data skills I built at McCourt are tools I use every day, and so is the ability to translate technical findings into clear messages for decision makers who aren't specialists.
Student organization involvement while at McCourt: I served as Vice President of Finance for the Latin American Policy Association (LAPA).
Undergraduate university and major: Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, Telecommunications Engineering
Hobbies / Interests: Venezuelan and Latin American policy and politics, golf, football (soccer), and running.
