Why did you choose McCourt? I chose the McCourt School for quantitative rigor and the abundance of elective options (both at McCourt and within other Georgetown schools) in the area I am focusing in – environmental policy. In addition, the Consortium enables students to take courses at Universities throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area which not only provides more course options but also increases networking opportunities.
Since the McCourt School of Public Policy is located in the heart of the policy-making world in Washington, DC there are many opportunities to intern and work with NGOs, congressional leaders, think tanks, and many other institutions. This allows students to take what they are learning in the classroom and apply it to the real world which, in my opinion, strengthens their graduate experience by solidifying concepts and adding to their skill sets.
Finally, the McCourt School offers an array of student organizations, support services, and resources to enrich every student’s experience. The faculty and staff are extremely accessible, responsive, and invested in your success, which truly creates a foundation for the entire program.
What was the best part of your experience? So far, I have really enjoyed my classes and getting to know so many people from various backgrounds. My professors are all extremely knowledgeable in their areas of expertise and many have spent many years working both in the public and private sectors outside of academia. My classmates all come from very different undergraduate programs and industries, from English majors coming straight from college to finance and technical professionals that have been working for the last 8 years. The mix of quantitative and qualitative backgrounds provides so many perspectives on topics covered in the classroom that is unique to McCourt.
Undergraduate Degree and University: BS in Environmental Economics & Policy and BA in Geography from UC Berkeley
Hobbies / Interests: Outside of McCourt, I work at a solar development firm as a trading and regulatory affairs intern so a majority of my time is spent either in school or working. When I do have free time, I really enjoy baking, cooking, and photography. I also really enjoy exploring Washington, DC and hope to plan a few weekend trips to explore more of the East Coast.
