Why did you choose McCourt? I chose McCourt because I wanted to be challenged and develop the hard quantitative skills that I am lacking, take classes from professors that are at the top of their field, the variety of organizations and speakers that allow me to develop my interests.
What professional/ work experience did you have prior to coming to McCourt? I came to McCourt almost right after undergrad. I graduated a semester early, December 2021, so I spent the spring semester prior to coming here interning on the Hill. During undergrad I did internships with the Department of Social Services - Foster Care/Child Protective Services, Children Advocacy Center (nonprofit working with children that have been abused), Community Service Coordinator for YouthWorks (a nonprofit empowering youth to serve communities) and with Flikshop (a criminal justice organization).
What has been the best part of your experience so far? The best part has been the people I have met! McCourt attracts a diverse array of people with different perspectives and it is amazing to get to learn from my classmates and connecting with professors has been great. Also, I have really enjoyed being apart of the Policy Innovation Lab and learning more about being a practitioner.
What internships have you had so far during your time at McCourt? Fellowship at the Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership at McCourt
Student organization involvement while at McCourt: Policy Innovation Lab
Undergraduate University, degree, and major: Virginia Tech, Human Development and Family Services
Hobbies/ Interests: I am interested in advocating for women and children as well as looking at the intersections of race, poverty, incarceration and other factors on families abilities to thrive. Outside of policy, I am interested in service, exploring DC, being outside, reading and long talks with friends!
Reach out to me about: Coming straight from undergrad, diversity, not coming from a quantitative background/struggling with quant classes here, connecting with others, time management, connecting with professors, finding community outside of Georgetown.
