Every year, MDI at the McCourt School of Public Policy awards up to three Research Seed Grants and one joint Seed Grant with the Georgetown Environment Initiative (GEI). The Research Seed grants award up to $40,000 to early-stage projects that make use of large data sets and involve a collaboration between data science and public policy. The MDI-GEI grant is awarded to Georgetown faculty that engage in a project that employs large data sets and associated quantitative and computational approaches to address questions centrally related to the environment.     #METOO Movement Twitter Data Mined by Computer Science Professor

    Lisa Singh, computer science professor and research professor in the McCourt School of Public Policy’s Massive Data Institute, works on numerous aspects of data-driven computer science. One of her most recent projects is mining Twitter data around the #MeToo hashtag in collaboration with six other Georgetown professors. This research is supported by the Massive Data Institute and the Gender Justice Initiative.

    Analytics and Public Policy Students Win 2017 Deloitte Foundation Fellowship

    Analytics students have teamed up with McCourt School of Public Policy students to win the2017 Deloitte Foundation Data Analytics Fellowship. Tiankai Guo, Ruhan Wang (both MS Analytics), Andre Lee (Master in International Development Policy), and Tommie Thompson (Master in Public Policy) met while participating in the Deloitte Core Consulting Series.

    McCourt, Georgetown Graduate Analytics Launch Master in Data Science for Public Policy Program

    This new program, which will welcome its first students in the fall of 2018, will combine the renowned strengths of McCourt’s public policy analysis curriculum with the cutting-edge computational, mathematical, statistical methods training of Georgetown’s Analytics program.
